The Book Claudel is Reading...

This post is in response to a multitude of viewers' questions about the book Claudel (played by Brooke Nevin) is reading in a scene from the film Alter Egos (2012, dir. Jordan Galland)

Inter-species oriented super powers, like those of Silver Sable, Wendigo and Hawkman, have long fascinated animal lovers, who gaze into the eyes of their cute tabby or panting golden retriever and long for an ever more intimate relation with their pet. And as history accumulates stories of interspecies mingling, like Florida’s Malcom Brenner and his dolphin - we can see how scholars might find evidence that some super powers are based in reality, occasionally using mainly Native American tribal sources and theological or religious texts.

In his book, St. Francis of Assisi: The First Superhero, Historian Leonardo Puccini makes an argument that the first recorded accounts of a human with animal or “nature” oriented super powers was Francis of Assissi, quoting two famous, widely witnessed incidences from an earlier manuscript, the Fioretti (“The Little Flowers,”) one in which the animal loving Saint conversed for hours with a group birds, later summoning them upon command when ever he wanted with a distinct whistle, and another tale in which Francis could call upon wolves to help in battle.

ALTER EGOS at Hell's Half Mile

In October 2012, Kris Lemche, Joey Kern and I went to present ALTER EGOS at the Hell's Half Mile Film Festival (where it was the closing night film, and won an award for Best Narrative Feature.) We met up with Daniel Schechter whose film SUPPORTING CHARACTERS (that I did the musical score for) was also playing there, as well as Rider Strong, Alex Baretto and Chris Levitus whose short film WALTER DON'T DANCE
was there. We spent three days wandering around the place. Here are some memories taken with my phone camera. They do not of course capture the excitement of the actual film festival itself.

Painted Egos

My friend Eden Rice (of "Kemp & Eden" fame) whose skill as a talented musician and chanteuse is perhaps only rivaled by her skills with oil paints, is working on a painting for "Alter Egos."

Sean Lennon "Alter Egos" Rolling Stone Interview

"Sean Lennon has teamed up with filmmaker Jordan Galland to write the music for Alter Egos, a forthcoming comedy about superheroes in a setting that resembles real life a bit more than movies starring the likes of Batman, the X-Men, Iron Man and Spider-Man. Lennon's soundtrack is a pastiche of familiar superhero movie orchestration and a variety of pop styles, and further cements his reputation as a sort of musical chameleon. Lennon chatted with Rolling Stone recently about working on the film, as well as his other projects with his girlfriend, musician and model Charlotte Kemp Muhl." excerpt from interview by By MATTHEW PERPETUA -

Super Sonic

It never ceases to amaze me. Just when I feel like the film has been polished and finished and I'm waiting for it come out the other end, yet another phase always comes into view (in this case "sound design") during which the film has a new life, and changes in ways I had not expected. below is a picture of what my waking life has been for several months. everything from footsteps to clothes to ice shooting out of a human hand... can't wait till we mix...
